Since the pandemic broke almost two years ago, fashion houses have come back at their own pace and on their own terms. Gucci was always up front about coming back when they were ready, and since we haven’t seen a runway collection from the Florentine house since February 2020, we can look forward to their return to Milan Fashion Week for the autumn-winter 2022 season.
Back in May 2020 Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele announced on his social media that the house would be reducing from five shows a year to two shows, sharing that seasonless was their new way. “The tyranny of speed with imposed deadlines risked to humiliate creativity,” he wrote. But, this morning from the stage at the 26th Pambianco Fashion Summit in Milan, Gucci’s CEO Marco Bizzarri shared that the brand will go physical in 3 months.
And not just this show, Gucci will have another runway show in late spring 2022 and in September 2022 for ready-to-wear week, according to notes from the house. Since their last runway show, Gucci has done digital presentations and events around the world like sit down dinners and the “Gucci Love Parade” that was showcased on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles earlier this month. Their parent company Kering’s other brands have made a slow comeback with their runway shows. Saint Laurent’s SS22 show in Paris in September was a physical first in over a year.
With Covid cases ramping up around the world, fingers are crossed that this show goes on as planned.
